Legal Analysis of Children as Victims of Domestic Violence in Uganda

Abstract

This dissertation provides a comprehensive legal analysis of the status of children as victims of domestic violence in Uganda. Despite legislative efforts and international conventions, domestic violence against children remains a prevalent issue in the country. The dissertation examines the legal framework in Uganda concerning child protection and domestic violence, focusing on relevant laws, policies, and international obligations. It discusses the challenges in implementing these legal provisions effectively, including gaps in enforcement and cultural barriers. Furthermore, this work explores the impact of domestic violence on children’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, emphasizing the need for holistic support and intervention measures. Additionally, it highlights the role of various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and communities, in addressing this complex issue. The dissertation concludes with recommendations for enhancing legal mechanisms, raising awareness, and providing adequate support systems to protect children from domestic violence in Uganda.
