This dissertation explores the legal and non-legal barriers to accessing abortion services in Uganda. It finds that outdated laws, legal ambiguity, social stigma, and fear of prosecution hinder access to safe and lawful abortion. The study also draws lessons from countries like South Africa, Kenya, and Ireland to highlight possible reforms. It concludes that Uganda needs clear legislation, improved public awareness, and better healthcare support to reduce unsafe abortions and protect women’s rights
