dc.description.abstractThe family is an essential institution in the society and must be protected. Disputes in families ought to be handled with care and the mode of dispute resolution to be applied be determined based on the type of dispute at hand and the level of conflict involved, the tendency of the dispute to cause lasting consequences must also be considered. Uganda has different modes of resolving family disputes, from informal to formal modes. The primary choice for resolution of family disputes is the informal modes, but litigation is also a mode that can effectively resolve family disputes. This study looked at both legal and non-legal methods of resolving family disputes looking at their strengths and how best to improve on them. The research recommends a variety of techniques that could be put in place to enhance family dispute resolution and maintain stability in families in Uganda.
