Abstract
This research report was undertaken to investigate the effect of healthcare services on HIV/AIDS treatment adherence among patients in Mukono general hospital. It was guided by two objectives; to explore the effect of access to healthcare services on HIV/AIDS treatment adherence among patients in Mukono general hospital, to examine the effect of psychosocial support on HIV/AIDS treatment adherence among patients in Mukono general hospital. The researcher used a sample size of 63 respondents and used questionnaires and interview guide to collect data and later the data was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results of the first objective showed that access to healthcare services has a significant effect on HIV/AIDS treatment adherence among patients in Mukono general hospital. Supported by the following responses; 54% of the respondents were positive to the statement that improved access to healthcare services allows for consistent medical check-ups, which enhances adherence to HIV/AIDS treatment by providing timely adjustments and monitoring; 62% were positive to the statement that access to healthcare services often includes educational resources about HIV/AIDS, which increases patients' understanding of the importance of adherence to their treatment plan; On the other hand, 75% constituting the majority were negative to the statement that easy access to antiretroviral medications ensures that patients receive their prescribed drugs consistently, which is crucial for maintaining treatment adherence. Results of the second objective showed that psychosocial support has a significant effect on HIV/AIDS treatment adherence among patients in Mukono general hospital. 62% forming the majority of respondents were positive to the statement that regular counseling helps patients manage the psychological impact of living with HIV/AIDS, encouraging them to follow their treatment regimen consistently, 51% had a positive response to the statement that participation in support groups offers shared experiences and encouragement, which can increase motivation and adherence to treatment, 75% were positive to the statement that psychosocial support often includes stress management techniques, which can help patients cope better and adhere to their medication. There is need for the government to improve healthcare infrastructure, particularly in remote and underserved areas, to ensure patients can easily reach treatment facilities. Mobile health clinics and telemedicine services can be deployed to bring care closer to those who struggle with regular visits.
