| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation investigates the significant role of supplier development practices on the organisational performance of Nile Breweries Limited, a leading beverage manufacturer in the region. The study aims to explore the relationship between supplier development initiatives and their impact on various aspects of the brewery's operations and overall performance. The specific objectives are to establish the role of supplier training on profitability, determine the impact of supplier financial support on productivity, and assess the role of information exchange on cost. The research utilizes a mixed-methods approach, comprising both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, to gather comprehensive data from various stakeholders, including suppliers, procurement managers, and senior management. The literature review delves into existing studies on supplier development practices and their implications on organisational performance. It reveals that supplier training programs lead to improved product quality, reduced defects, and increased production efficiency, ultimately resulting in cost savings and enhanced profitability. Moreover, well-trained suppliers are better equipped to respond to changing market demands, aligning their offerings with the brewery's requirements, leading to improved supply chain coordination, reduced lead times, and optimized inventory management. This enhanced responsiveness allows Nile Breweries Limited to capitalize on emerging market opportunities and meet customer demands more effectively, driving increased sales and revenue. Furthermore, supplier financial support, in the form of loans, grants, or investments, plays a crucial role in enhancing supplier capabilities, allowing them to invest in new technology, expand operations, and optimize processes. This support leads to improved production efficiency within the supply chain, streamlined workflows, and reduced production lead times, contributing to increased productivity. Additionally, financial support reduces production bottlenecks and capacity constraints, enabling suppliers to scale operations to meet growing demand and ensure a stable supply of raw materials and products. This, in turn, fosters a more reliable and efficient supply chain. The dissertation also highlights the impact of information exchange between Nile Breweries Limited and its suppliers. Effective sharing of relevant data, such as demand forecasts and production schedules, enables informed decision-making, operational optimization, and better alignment with customer demand. Accurate demand forecasts lead to improved inventory management, reducing the risk of overproduction or stockouts, resulting in cost savings. Moreover, timely sharing of production schedules and capacity requirements allows for better resource planning and allocation, reducing idle capacity and production downtime, further minimizing production costs. The findings underscore the significance of collaborative supplier development initiatives, emphasizing the importance of building strong partnerships and fostering a culture of mutual support between Nile Breweries Limited and its suppliers. These positive relationships lead to reduced supplier turnover, associated costs, and supply chain risks, ultimately contributing to improved organisational performance. In conclusion, this dissertation provides valuable insights into the impact of supplier development practices on Nile Breweries Limited's organisational performance. The research findings demonstrate the positive influence of supplier training, financial support, and information exchange on various aspects of the brewery's operations, ultimately enhancing its competitiveness and profitability. The study recommends that Nile Breweries Limited continues investing in comprehensive supplier development programs and nurturing collaborative relationships with suppliers to achieve sustained growth and success in the dynamic beverage industry. | |
