Abstract
This dissertation aims to investigate the impact of microfinance on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Entebbe Municipality. Microfinance has gained significant attention as a tool for poverty alleviation and economic development, particularly in developing countries. SMEs play a crucial role in fostering economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. However, access to finance remains a major challenge for many SMEs, limiting their ability to grow and contribute to the local economy.
The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. The quantitative analysis will involve collecting data from a sample of SMEs in Entebbe Municipality through surveys. The surveys will assess the financial needs of SMEs, their current access to microfinance, and the impact of microfinance on their business performance. Additionally, financial indicators such as profitability, sales growth, and employment generation will be analyzed to measure the overall impact of microfinance on SMEs.
The qualitative analysis will involve conducting interviews with key stakeholders in the microfinance sector, including representatives from microfinance institutions (MFIs), government agencies, and SME owners. These interviews will provide insights into the challenges faced by SMEs in accessing microfinance, the effectiveness of existing microfinance programs, and potential areas for improvement.
The findings of this research will contribute to the existing literature on microfinance and SME development by providing empirical evidence on the impact of microfinance on SMEs in Entebbe Municipality. The study aims to identify the factors that hinder or facilitate SMEs' access to microfinance and assess the effectiveness of current microfinance programs in meeting the needs of SMEs. The research findings will inform policymakers, MFIs, and other stakeholders about strategies to enhance the impact of microfinance on SME development.
Overall, this dissertation seeks to shed light on the role of microfinance in promoting SME growth and economic development in Entebbe Municipality. By understanding the challenges and opportunities associated with microfinance, policymakers, and stakeholders can design more effective interventions to support SMEs and foster sustainable economic growth.
