Abstract
The purpose of the Impact of Information Technology on Supply Chain management was to determine areas in which Information Technology was applied in supply management at Rose-Foam Industries Limited. The study also sought to investigate various IT applications used in supply chain operations. The main aim of the study was to enlighten other manufacturing firms to fully implement IT in their supply chain operations as well.
A case study was done on a manufacturing firm know Rose-foam Company with a population of 60 people across the departments of Marketing, Logistics, Accounting, Distributors, Finance and IT. Data was collected using a cross section research design approach where questionnaires were distributed to a sample size of 52 respondents. Rose-foam Company has fully implemented IT in its operations and has achieved good results. Findings show that IT has improved the processes of transactions across the various functions and also it is integrated in such a way that information flows along the various functions between marketing, logistics and finance.
The various technologies used have reduced costs of operations in the supply chain and a lot of savings have been achieved. It was also noted that lead time for orders has reduced. There was improved customer services where both internal and external customers were happy due to faster response from the supply chain. The study recommends that companies especially in the manufacturing sector should implement IT in their supply chain operations to improve efficiencies as indicated in the charts.
