This study explored the impact of microfinance interventions on the empowerment of women-headed households in Kaliro-Katono Village, Katikamu Sub-County, Luwero District, Uganda. Microfinance is recognized as a critical tool for fostering economic development and reducing poverty, particularly among marginalized groups such as women. The study examined how microcredit, microsavings, and training provided by microfinance institutions influence the economic and social empowerment of women in these households. The research adopted a mixed-method approach, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data to comprehensively analyze the effects of microfinance interventions. Data were collected through structured questionnaires from 25 women who are heads of their families, selected through simple random sampling. The study focused on three key areas: the effect of microcredit on financial decision-making and household stability, the role of microsavings in enhancing financial security and business growth, and the impact of training on developing leadership skills and improving income-generating activities. Findings revealed that microfinance interventions significantly contribute to the empowerment of women-headed households. Microcredit was found to improve financial literacy and resource management, enabling women to start or expand businesses and make informed financial decisions within their households. Micro-savings programs provided financial security, resilience against economic shocks, and facilitated business development. Training programs were effective in building leadership skills, fostering community engagement, and enhancing negotiation and communication skills in business transactions. The study concluded that microfinance plays a crucial role in empowering women headed households by enhancing their economic independence, improving their social standing, and fostering community participation. However, the research also highlighted the need for tailored microfinance programs that address the specific needs and challenges faced by different groups of women to maximize their empowerment.
