Assessing the Integration of Sustainable and Responsible Banking Practices in to the Banking Sector in Uganda

Abstract

In this thesis, the researcher examines the extent at which the integration of sustainable and responsible banking practices into the banking sector in Uganda has been adopted. In Uganda’s secular banking sector, the idea of sustainable and responsible banking practices is a recent development. The study therefore elucidates how these practices will impact the banking sector, economy and the financial inclusion in general. It also highlights how the legal and regulatory frameworks have helped the banking sector in adopting the sustainable and responsible banking practices in Uganda like, the Financial Institutions Act, the Ant-Money Laundering Act, Ant-Terrorism Act, and others that have incorporated certain sections that provide for the establishment of the ESGs and SDGs in to their operation as a way of promoting economic growth and development in the banking sector in Uganda. The research stresses also the likely challenges that may arise if such practices are not adopted like the anticipated increase of the financial crises coupled with financial fraud, and other related crimes. Furthermore, the researcher wishes to bring to your attention of the method in which the piece of work is scripted using both primary and secondary source of information, using the doctrinal research. Therefore, the key findings and recommendations state that, if such practices can be adopted in to the banking sector in Uganda, the banking sector is anticipated to ascend the country from lower-middle income status country to upper-middle income status country, a great achievement statistically.
